“Having the surgery really gave me mental clarity…the ability to move on…the ability to talk to other women about it. Everybody has a story, and when you share yours, it’s comforting.”

Gail S.

After testing positive for the BRCA1 genetic mutation, Gail had to choose between prophylactic surgery and continuous monitoring to manage her high risk of breast and ovarian cancer. She was supported through this difficult time by her family and by other women going through similar experiences. Gail opted to have two preventive surgeries, an ovariectomy and a double mastectomy, as well as DIEP Flap reconstruction.
