Friedman Center Debuts LAP Flap Procedure for Breast Reconstruction
Women who undergo breast reconstruction have a range of procedures to choose from. There’s flap reconstruction, in which the new breast is formed from donor tissue from another site on their body. Implant-based reconstruction allows women to choose between saline and silicone implants, smooth or textured. And hybrid reconstruction uses a combination of both approaches, tissue and implant together.

Northwell opens $3M Center for Breast and Lymphatic Surgery
Northwell Health has opened a $3 million, 4,600-square-foot outpatient comprehensive reconstructive breast and lymphatic surgery center designed for women with breast cancer or a genetic predisposition for the disease. Surgeons at the Gerald J. Friedman Center for Breast and Lymphatic Surgery specialize in breast and lymphatic reconstruction, have pioneered many advances in the field and are recognized internationally as leaders in research and innovation.
Life After Breast Reconstruction
It was not an easy decision to remove both of my breasts. I come from a family infiltrated by breast cancer, and genetic testing revealed that I had an 87% risk of contracting breast cancer in my lifetime. So when I ultimately chose to have a preventative double mastectomy, I knew that although I would be losing my breasts, I would be gaining a sense of security and peace of mind.
Breast Cancer Awareness and BRA Day
The Friedman Center kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer research. We’ll also be hosting several events for BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day throughout October.
